MEDICAL ASSISTANCE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM (MATP)

Medical Assistance Transportation Program provides non-emergency medical transportation, bus tickets, and after-the-fact reimbursement for transportation to medical appointments to residents of Allegheny County who have a valid Pennsylvania ACCESS ( Medical Assistance) Card. Both physical and behavioral health care appointments are included.

APPRISE HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING PROGRAM
APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program designed to help older Pennsylvanians with Medicare. Counselors are specially trained volunteers who can answer your questions about Medicare and provide you with objective, easy-to-understand information about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid, and Long-Term Care Insurance.

The toll-free APPRISE Helpline is 1-800-783-7067, all services are free and confidential.

Anyone 60 years of age or older or disabled residing in Allegheny County is eligible. Interested postal patrons register to participate in the program at their local senior centers or through AAA. The letter carrier may watch for any signs of distress such as an unusual accumulation of mail. If the letter carrier finds an accumulation of mail, he or she may report this to the postal supervisor who will report it to AAA. AAA will then try to contact the customer by phone. If he/she cannot be reached, the agency personnel will try to contact a friend or relative who has been designated. If a friend or a relative cannot be reached, AAA will contact the police to check on the health and well-being of the customer.
